How Is It Made?

LP® SolidStart® Rim Board is available as OSB, LVL, or LSL. OSB is made by blending wood strands with thermal-set, waterproof adhesives. The treated strands are arranged in cross-directional layers that are pressed together under extreme heat and pressure. The result is a rigid, dense engineered wood that is stiff, strong and durable. Our OSB Rim Board comes in smaller thicknesses and is ideal for lower lateral applications.
LP® SolidStart LSL® is made from a mixture of northern hardwoods like aspen and maple and is bonded using a state-of-the-art steam injection press. This makes it stronger, stiffer and straighter than traditional lumber. LP SolidStart LSL Rim Board is the smart choice when strength and consistency are demanded.
LP manufacturers a cross-ply LVL specifically for use as rim board. This product differs from other LP SolidStart LVL in that two veneers are cross-oriented to provide enhanced vertical load capacity and cupping resistance, and it is ripped to the proper depth tolerance. Our LVL Rim Board is the smart choice for areas with higher seismic requirements.
All three types of LP SolidStart Rim Board are precision cut to match the depths of LP® SolidStart® I-Joists.
